The High Grove Early Childhood Center will have a Literacy Night on Tuesday, March 28th. This should be a fun event, but it also help us to remember how important reading and books are to our kids learning. A lot of kids enjoy tablets or iPads, games on their parent's phones, and TV shows. These activities can all be educational, but actually putting books in our kids hands and reading together is so important. Reading books together helps to foster good discussions, increase vocabulary, teach sequencing of ideas/storyline, and look at how people interact with each other (funny stories, sad stories, sharing and caring storylines). Books also can encourage asking and answering questions which can increase your child's overall verbal reasoning skills. Try and read at least 5 books a week with your kids. This bonding experience is so special for both the parents and their kids!
