Play an ‘I Spy’ game with your child. You can play in your car, home, grandparent's house, yard, or whenever you want to take a quick learning/language break. ‘I Spy’ activities are great for helping kids to use inferencing skills - which improves verbal reasoning abilities. Teach your child how to give clues and then see if your kids can give the clues for others to guess what they ‘spy’.
Try to be more mindful of listening to how your child is actually saying words. Listen to sound errors and model the corrected version. It can be helpful to point out the actual sound that you heard in error and even write down the word for him/her to see that sounds are in words. You might say, “That word has an /s/ in it. Look, I say an /s/ like this. Can you say it like me? Let’s try that word again together." This practice helps to promote phonological awareness and improve overall speech production.
