For the next couple of weeks, have your child work on identifying objects by function (point to the one that we eat) or attribute (Which one is red? Which one has stripes? Which one is fast?). Once your child can point to the correct object, then is it time to begin to ask, (What do you do with a key? What do you do with a car?). Also, see if they can start describing objects by naming attributes, (Tell me something about that bug? Tell me something about that dog?). Your child's language skills will mature and be more descriptive and full when your child can truly understand and state functions and attributes.
Everyone has come back to school with big grins and ready to learn! We are learning school vocabulary, reading back to school stories, and singing back to school songs (Wheels on the Bus). Our school building theme is 'transportation' so we are also talking about different vehicles, how they move, and were you would find them (airplanes go in the sky, boats go on the water, cars go on the road). Point out vehicles to your child while driving down the road or around your house. Talk about how they look, how they move, and where you saw them.
Welcome back to school! The summer passed by so quickly and it is already time for a new year of learning. Try and talk with your child about his/her teacher, teaching assistants, therapists, and new students in his/her classroom. Talk about all of the school items your child will need to purchase or will see at school (backpack, scissors, glue, paper, crayons, markers, books, toys, swing, slide, bus, puzzles, etc.). Working on building your child's vocabulary on a weekly basis will increase his/her success at school not only during the preschool years, but throughout the remainder of your child's school experience.
Let's get ready to 'Rock and Roll' and have a great school year!!!!! Miss Cheryl |
