This is a good time of the year to teach your child to play some simple board games. We have to spend more time inside due to the cold and inclement weather so why not do something fun together!
Board games (such as Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, Hi Ho Cherry-O) teach many good skills. The skills of taking turns, counting spaces on the board, recognizing numerals, matching colors, and following simple directions are activities that will help with academic and social skills at school. Even simple card games can be fun and educational. Don't forget to try simple memory games, too! Place 6-12 matching cards upside down and take turns finding the matches. Start with a smaller number so that your child can be successful and then start making it more challenging by adding a few more pairs.
