It is time to get ready for another great school year! This year our building theme is zoo/jungle animals. Think about trying to find pictures and read books about these animals to help build your child's vocabulary skills. The vocabulary involved could include: naming the animal, talking about the color of the animal's fur/skin/scales, discussing attributes of the animal (striped, spotted, fast, slow, wild, furry, big, sharp teeth, claws) or how the animal moves (runs, hops, crawls, flies).
Building a well rounded vocabulary will help your child with his/her language and cognitive skills, but it will also help your child be a better writer as they move into kindergarten and beyond because they will have the skill of being able to describe and talk about items rather than just naming them.
Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions or concerns about your child's communication skills. Let's have a wonderful new year!!!
